Wrist fractures

  • Pronator quadratus fat stripe – indirect evidence of an occult distal radius fracture
  • Splint, f/u in one week for reexamination/re-imaging

Carpal fractures

Scaphoid

  • Most common
  • At risk for avascular necrosis
  • Often occult – pain w/ axial loading of thumb, snuffbox tenderness

Triquetral

  • 2nd most common
  • Easy to miss dorsal speck of bone on lateral view of hand
  • Reason to look at your own films
